In New Zealand, approaching ski season

The first two ski runs open in two weeks , but the first snow has fallen this Saturday, May 25, in the tourist town of Queenstown.


Queenstown is the most popular ski resort in the South Island . Huge piles of snow and low temperatures overnight turned the town into a winter wonderland.

Ski season 2014 officially starts on June 20th annual Winter Festival American Express Queenstown. This year it will be the 40th anniversary festival, and therefore planned a series of major commemorative events – fireworks, live music, street parades and more.

Among the four ski resorts in the world class city of Queenstown and Wanaka on the lake is the largest ski resorts in New Zealand. Southern Lakes region is popular with Australian tourists. Due to the expected increase in the number of holiday-makers planned to add 55,000 seats on flights from Australia to Queenstown during the winter season . In southern New Zealand ski trails are also trained star skiing snowboarding on when the Northern Hemisphere summer. 21 athlete frystayler that were prepared last winter at Cardrona ski area, won Olympic medals in Sochi.
